What should I expect to pay?

The cost of geothermal heat pump systems, like traditional systems, can vary from community to community.  As a rule of thumb, the indoor components of a geothermal heat pump system can cost around $2,500 per ton of capacity.

A typical home in the U.S. uses between 2.5 and 3 ton in capacity.  In addition, the outdoor component of the system – drilling/trenching and installation of the loops and other supporting equipment – can run from $10,000-$30,000 depending on your site location, the conditions of your land, and make-up of the soil.
